What we keep, and why.

HelloCook plans meals for real people, so it learns real things about your household. Here is what it keeps, what it never does, and how to take it back.

Last updated 26 September 2026

The short version

  • We keep what the household tells HelloCook so nobody has to repeat it.
  • We don’t sell your data, and we don’t use it for advertising.
  • The microphone is never on by default. It listens only when someone taps to speak.
  • Health information is opt-in, belongs to one person, and is never presented as medical advice.
  • You can see, correct, export or delete what we hold at any time.

What HelloCook keeps

The household

The members of the account, their first names, ages where you give them, portions, tastes, routines (“Tom gets home late on Tuesdays”) and the shops you use. This is what lets the plan fit how you actually live.

Conversations

What each member says to HelloCook, by text or voice. Voice is transcribed to text; we keep the transcript, not a recording, unless you choose otherwise in settings.

Recipes and their sources

Recipes you add, with the link, video or photo they came from, so the source stays attached. Photos of handwritten cards and cookbook pages are stored so you can see the original.

Health and dietary information

Allergies, intolerances, dietary choices and goals, when a member chooses to share them. Each one is kept on the person it belongs to, with where it came from (“Declared by me”, a professional recommendation, or a connected service). Critical allergies are never inferred; they are only recorded when someone sets them.

What we do with it

  • Plan meals, scale portions and adapt plates for each person.
  • Build and sync the grocery list across the household’s phones.
  • Answer questions while you cook.
  • Keep the service secure, and fix problems you report.

HelloCook’s suggestions about food and health are general guidance. They are not a diagnosis, a treatment or medical advice.

Who else sees it

Members of your household account see the shared plan, list and conversation. Each member’s health information is visible to the adults who manage the account. We use a small number of service providers (hosting, speech-to-text, the language model behind the assistant) under contracts that limit them to running HelloCook for you.

Your choices

  • Correct anything HelloCook has noted from the household settings, or just tell it.
  • Export your household’s data, including recipes and their sources.
  • Delete a member, a conversation, or the whole account. Deletion is permanent after 30 days.

For anything else, write to [email protected]. We answer within 30 days.
